PLAY THINGS
2D Horror Puzzle Game
Engine: Unreal
Platform: PC
Role: Game Designer
Project Type: UOB Game Jam 2024
Play Things is a game that was created by the Alchemy Lab team during a University of Bolton Game Jam. The theme for the game jam was "2 Button Tech." The team decided to take the tech aspect into a different direction than what others may have been thinking which led to the creation of a toy fixing puzzle game that features a simplistic control scheme of clicking and rotating batteries, wires and chips to stick with the 2 button aspect. To add an intriguing element to the game the team decided to use Five Nights at Freddy's as a reference point, which gave it that horror spin. Although the game looked brilliant, unfortunately, due to some missteps on the design end, the judges didn't think the game worked as intended, and it didn't get the result the team was hoping for. The issue was that pieces of the game were not labelled, which led to a misunderstanding of how the game worked. However, from a technical standpoint, the puzzle system was developed with great expertise and I have managed to learn a lot about UE5 Blueprints and Widgets.
